Good vibrations

From all of us a GRX Marketing, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! This month's Marketing 101 is going to be looking at the ins and outs of PR (Public Relations) as an advertising medium.

Another major promotional tool, public relations, consists of activities designed to build good relations with the company's various publics. PR is used to promote products, people, places, ideas, activities and more.

PR can have a strong impact on public awareness at a much lower cost than advertising can. When using PR, the company does not pay for the space or time in the media. Because of this, PR is considered more believable to the public.

Recently, the web has become a more important channel for public relations. Websites, blogs, social networks (e.g YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) are providing new, and cheap, ways to reach and engage a larger audience.

"The core strengths of public relations - the ability to tell a story and spark conversation - play well into the nature of social media." - Unknown
